Our website uses cookies. These are small text files that make it possible to store user-specific information on the user's device while using the website. Data collected
Data gathered in the use of this website is collected, processed and used by us, Rickmers-Line GmbH & Co. KG and all our subsidiaries, as providers of this site within the meaning of the  German Telemedia Act (Telemediengesetz - TMG), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (EU-law) and the German Federal Data Protection Act (Bundesdatenschutzgesetz - BDSG). The protection of personal data is important to Rickmers-Line. This is why we handle personal data in a responsible manner, complying with legal data protection provisions.

This Privacy Statement provides an indication of the type of data we gather when you use the site, the purposes we use the data for, exactly how we collect, process and use the data, and what your rights are with respect to the data.

Gathering and processing data when using our website

It is of course possible to use our site with providing any personal data. As is the case with many sites, when individual websites are retrieved our webservers and the Piwik web analytics software we deploy automatically gather and process the following non-personal data.

Automatic Logs

Our webservers automatically save information temporarily in a log file each time one of the pages on our site is accessed/retrieved. Once the information has been evaluated statistically it will be deleted automatically. Until then, the following details are stored:

  • IP address of the computer retrieving the website
  • Name and URL of the file accessed
  • Date and time of the site/page was accessed
  • Data volumes transferred
  • Message indicating whether the retrieval of the web pages was successful
  • Information identifying the browser and operating system you are using
  • URL of website you used if you linked from another site
  • The name of your internet access provider

This data cannot be assigned to any one particular person and as such is not deemed to be personal data. This data is not merged with any other data, nor is data forwarded, nor is a personal user profile compiled.

Data is processed solely for the purpose of facilitating the use of the website (establishing a connection), for internal system-related purposes that affect technical administration and system security, and for statistical purposes, such as to be able to adapt the website better to meet your needs by anonymously evaluating general user behaviour.

Statistical evaluation

We use the open source web analytics software Piwik to evaluate user access statistically. Piwik deposits cookies in the cache of your browser which allows us to analyse website use. Piwik and the information on your use of our site generated by the cookies are stored on our servers in Germany. The IP address is made anonymous prior being stored in the Piwik database. As described above, you can prevent cookies from being stored on your system by changing the appropriate settings to your browser.

In addition, you can decide whether a unique web analytics cookie may be stored on your browser to enable us to capture and analyse various statistical data. If you do not want this, click on the following link to store the Piwik deactivation cookie on your browser.

Gathering and processing of personal data

We only gather, process and use personal data such as your name, postal address, email address and other contact details if you have entered these on this website and transferred them to us, and if such gathering, processing and use is permitted by law or has been given your consent.

The use of certain services on our website such as contact forms, queries, online applications and subscriptions to our newsletter makes it necessary to gather, process and use personal data. In this case, we only gather such personal data indicated as mandatory on the respective online forms that is necessary to trigger and process the relevant services.

Other personal data that can be entered in form fields is voluntary and is only used to address you in a more personal/individual manner or to provide a better service to you, such as by providing feedback. For each of these services, we would advise you to refer to the appropriate page on our website to see why we gather, process and use the respective personal data. Each time we gather, process and use your personal data it is only for the purpose indicated and in sufficient quantities to enable this purpose to be met.

If, before we can gather, process and use certain data - such as when you subscribe to our newsletter - your prior consent becomes necessary, we will of course ask for your consent on the appropriate page of our website.

You are entitled to revoke your consent at any time either wholly or in part with effect for the future. We will log this consent, and also log such revocation.

In some cases, certain personal data may be forwarded to other companies for purposes previously notified if this is permitted by law or has your prior consent. Such external service providers we draw on to operate our website or to process certain services on our website process personal data solely on our behalf and are contractually obliged to comply with legal provisions regarding data protection and data security. These are not deemed third parties within the meaning of data protection law.
